International Credit Union Day

Be sure to drop by Oshawa Community this Thursday, October 21st to celebrate International Credit Union Day with your favourite Credit Union!  We will be giving out Covid-friendly treats (individually wrapped) and bringing out our legendary SPIN TO WIN WHEEL!  We have a bunch of sweet Oshawa Community swag to give away including very nice tote bags & coffee mugs as well as Lady Marmalade’s homemade preserves & an iPhone Charger!

International Credit Union Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement: to do what is best for the member, not what is best for the Credit Union’s bottom line.

“We do not have shareholders; we have members that we have known for decades that have become like family” explains CEO of Oshawa Community John Remillard. “Our goal is to put more money in your pocket, not the Credit Union’s.”

The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. ICU Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.

The goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. This year's theme is "Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow."
